The Birth of The Little Book Factory

"Mummy, can you make this into a book?"

Those seven words from my daughter Millie changed everything.

It was 6 o'clock on a Sunday evening when Millie burst into the living room clutching not her usual bedtime storybook, but a tattered notepad.

"I want to read this tonight," she announced thrusting her homemade creation into my hands.

There it was—"Squishmallow's Go Camping"—a story she'd written at six years old, complete with colourful, wobbly illustrations and those heart-melting misspellings that only a child could produce.

As we finished the last page, she looked up at me with those earnest eyes.

"Mummy, can you make this into a book? A real one?

Pleeeeeaaaase"

Afterall, I work in publishing. It can’t be that hard to just ‘make a book’, surely? In the real world it takes months of editing, typesetting, design work, marketing meetings—the publishing machine is a slow-moving beast.

That night, I couldn't sleep. Millie's request echoed in my mind.

Could I make her story into a real book?

One that wouldn't look like some flimsy pamphlet but could proudly sit on a shelf between Dogman and Wimpy Kid?

By dawn, I had my answer.

I marched into work the next day and I quit my publishing job. The industry I once loved suddenly felt like a fortress with walls too high for little hands to scale.

The Little Book Factory was born that day. Not just for Millie, but for every child clutching a notepad filled with imagination.
